About the Role
The Senior Associate, Mergers & Acquisitions plays a pivotal role in evaluating and executing acquisitions of natural gas-fired power generation assets. This position combines deep analytical expertise with growing transaction leadership responsibilities, serving as a trusted advisor to senior leadership while managing complex deal workstreams and mentoring junior team members.
You'll independently lead key aspects of transaction execution, including financial modeling, due diligence coordination, and stakeholder management. This role requires strong technical skills, sound judgment, and the ability to drive results across commercial, technical, regulatory, and operational dimensions of power sector acquisitions.
What You'll Do
Lead execution of acquisition transactions involving natural gas-fired power assets, serving as day-to-day point of contact for assigned deals
Independently manage transaction timelines, milestones, and deliverables across multiple concurrent workstreams
Build, validate, and maintain sophisticated asset-level financial models for combined-cycle, simple-cycle, peaking, and cogeneration plants
Develop comprehensive valuation analyses incorporating power market revenues (energy, capacity, ancillary services), fuel economics, heat rates, emissions costs, and operating expenses
Lead and coordinate commercial, technical, environmental, legal, regulatory, tax, and insurance due diligence processes
Manage relationships with external advisors, including investment banks, technical consultants, legal counsel, and accounting firms
Monitor and analyze power market fundamentals, regulatory developments, and industry trends affecting natural gas generation assets
Lead post-acquisition integration planning and coordinate transition activities with asset management and operations teams
What We're Looking For
Required:
5-8 years of experience in investment banking, private equity, corporate development, energy advisory, or power-focused consulting
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Business, or related field
Proven track record executing acquisition transactions involving power generation or energy infrastructure assets
Advanced financial modeling skills with expertise in power generation economics and valuation methodologies
Strong understanding of wholesale power markets, natural gas markets, and regulatory frameworks
Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills with ability to present to senior leadership
Preferred:
Advanced degree (MBA, CFA, or similar)
Direct experience with combined-cycle, simple-cycle, peaking, or cogeneration facilities
